Herb-Gruyère Biscuits

Herb-Gruyère Biscuits is an easy to make at home biscuit recipe. The combination of the flavors of herbs and cheese in a biscuit, makes it an unique recipe. Gruyère is a Swiss cheese which has the best use in baking because of its distinctive but not over powering taste.

In the recipe for 'Herb-Gruyère Biscuits', Gruyère cheese is mixed with a few herbs like thyme and sage. The main ingredients for this recipe are 2 ¼ cups of flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, a cup of shredded Gruyère cheese,one cup of buttermilk that has been chilled ,and 1 ½ sticks of unsalted butter. The herbs that are used are one teaspoon of chopped thyme leaves and half teaspoon of chopped sage leaves.
The first step for making the 'Herb-Gruyère Biscuits' is to make the dough. For that, flour,baking powder and baking soda are to be mixed together in a large bowl. Next fold in the butter and add thyme, sage and the Gruyère cheese. To moisten the mixture,gently add the buttermilk and make a soft dough. The dough is then to be rolled out on a surface that has been dusted with flour. A round disk, about half inches thick is to made from the dough. The biscuit shapes are to be cut out using a cookie-cutter that is two and ¼ inches round. If any scraps are left after cutting out the shapes, they can be rolled again and spread out to cut. While cutting the shapes, it is best to lightly flour the cookie-cutter. The biscuits are then transferred to a baking dish and brushed with melted butter. A few sprinkles of flaky salt is put on top of the biscuits. The biscuits are then set aside for about ten minutes until they become firm and then they are baked. The oven is to be set at 425 degrees to bake the 'Herb-Gruyère Biscuits' which take about twenty minutes. When the biscuits are a light golden color they are taken out from the oven. The smell of the freshly baked 'Herb-Gruyère Biscuits' is sure to tingle the nose.
